HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PHOTOGRAPHING AND FILMING WEDDINGS?

We have been photographing weddings since 2002 all over Australia and internationally. We added videography to our services in 2007 and cinematography in 2009.

DO YOU SHOOT ANYTHING ELSE?

Yes, although the vast experience of our team lies with weddings, we also capture a select number of high profile corporate and commercial works as well as portraits and heashots.

WHAT’S YOUR STYLE?

It is important to us the our wedding couples DAY UNFOLDS IN A NATURAL WAY that is almost as if we as photographers and cinematographers were there on the day. Capturing the EMOTION of the day is what is most important to us and that requires a documentary style of photography. Divine Studios caters for couples who are looking for a studio that creates not only emotive, candid award winning photography yet is also renowned or some of the top cinematic films in the industry. We specialise in creative documentary style imagery for our wedding clients around Australia. Our philosophy behind our wedding work is to tell stories, capture emotion and to connect with each and ever couple we work with.

WHAT CREDIBILITY AND ACCREDITATIONS CAN YOU OFFER?

We are currently accredited with the Professional Photographers Association of Queensland and the Australian Institute of Professional Photography. Some of our photographers are accredited with both and some accredited with either of these equally recognised institutions. All of our photographers and film makers have won professional awards which you can view at the time of your visit to your studio.

WHAT DO WE GET?

Our most common coverage of the day is 10 hours yet this can be adjusted by customising to your needs. Depending what you are looking for we usually work as one or two photographers for the photography and one or two cinematographers for the film. Many of our couples hire us to don BOTH the photography and film, as this helps us to capture our style more easily rather than be limited by possibly the different style of another studio. Most commonly we have one photographer and two cinematographers in our team. Our photographers and cinematographers are at the top of the industry in terms of talent, experience, awards and also handpicked for having a warm personality and high level of professionalism. A very important point to consider is that capturing a live event such as a wedding presents a certain amount of unpredictability. We feel passionate about capturing the ceremony and speeches in their entirety. We therefore most commonly use 3 cameras angles to have the best chance of being able to capture these parts of the day completely. We use dSLR technology which not only gives us the cinematic look and the best picture quality, yet these cameras are also relatively small and blend into the background to be as unobtrusive as possible.

HOW MANY PHOTOS DO WE END UP WITH?

Most couples order albums that are between 50 and 90 sides in length. All the images from the album are included on a USB . We strongly recommend couples have the full experience and final product of the album as the actual printing and presentation of the album once the images are all edited and retouched is a relatively minor last step in the process that does not really make sense to forgo, especially knowing that we have a combined experience of over 30 years between designers and printers that can in no way in the world be achieved by printing an album with a consumer retailer. We guarantee the results of the average consumer album products far inferior in print quality, build quality and longevity what we take pride in producing. You only have to visit our studio or browse our blog to see the quality and beauty of our finished albums that have taken us years to perfect.

THAT SOUNDS GOOD BUT, WHAT'S YOUR PRICE?

Or photography and films start at $2950 each and depending on extra coverage and extra photos for your album we work with you to customise our service to your wedding. We do have some price incentives for weddings held Monday through Thursdayas well as incentives for booking us for BOTH photography and film. Because we know from experience that almost no two couples have exactly the same wedding or needs we heavily customise our service for each couple. The best way is to call Normy on 0410 144 132 or request an appointment anytime Monday or Thursday between 9am and 8pm.

DO YOU SHOOT DESTINATION WEDDING?

Absolutely. We have been photographing weddings since 2002 all over Australia. All over Queensland, Sydney, Melbourne and overseas. Depending on what services and coverage you require in some cases we are able to forfeit travel expenses, yet in most cases travel expenses are quite affordable for knowing you are capturing your day the way you want it to be captured.

HAVE YOU WORKED AT OUR WEDDING LOCATION BEFORE?

In most cases YES. If we have not we will always research the location thoroughly and do an on sight scout the day before the wedding day. For destination weddings we will usually arrive the morning of the day before the wedding. Knowing the venue and location is ONLY and advantage if the photographer does not scout the location beforehand which we always do. Furthermore, IF we have not photographed a location before it allows us to be more creative and fresh whilst still getting to know the location thoroughly the day before which actually makes it DESIRABLE to create photography and films in a new location. If you can imagine having photographed at a venue / location 20 or 30 times before, it actually is undesirable as we feel that we are could be taking the exact same photos and locations again and again. What inspires us as photographers and film makers is to create something original and unique for every couple that reflects them as a couple.

WE’RE LOCATED OUTSIDE OF THE SE QUEENSLAND AREA AND CANNOT COME FOR AN APPOINTMENT, WHAT CAN WE DO?

On the contact page is our SKYPE number. You can Skype us at any time where we can take you through a virtual tour of the studio, show and explain our albums and collections to the effect that we are having a VIRTUAL APPOINTMENT online.

WHEN WILL WE SEE OUR PHOTOGRAPHS?

We have a state of the art colour correction workflow that allows you to visit anywhere from the day after the wedding up to 7 days after the wedding. Normally we like to have a day between the wedding day and the album ordering yet the reality is that some of our couples fly out one or two days after the wedding. We therefore arrange our editors to process the wedding within a few hours of the wedding in some cases. Full art working and retouching of the images is done once you chose the images you would like to display in your album or select for full retouching.

IS THERE A DEPOSIT?

Yes the retainer is 30 percent of the initial collections you order. The balance of the initial collections is payable around the time of the wedding. The retainer is non refundable because in most cases we have to turn down many other couples having their wedding date to commit to capturing your day.

DO YOU HAVE A BACKUP EQUIPMENT?

YES, we use the most robust professional practices in terms of the security of our photography and footage. Our photographic cameras shoot simultaneously to two memory cards which makes loss of data virtually impossible. Once we have downloaded all our images and footage, we create two additional copies, one of which is stored offsite. When we deliver the photography and films to our clients we keep the photography and footage for around 60 days. It is important therefore that couples arrange and secure backups of the photographs and films soon after pick up.

GREAT! SO HOW DO WE HIRE YOU?

If you cannot come in for an appointment and you have made sure we are still available for your date, it is best to call Normy on 0410 144 132 or the studio on 3122 8250 to make payment either with EFTPOS ( credit card ) , Paypal, or direct deposit. It is best not to delay once you have decided to book us as we cannot secure your booking until payment is received and there are usually other couples enquiring for your date if it is still open.

WHAT IS A ‘FIRST LOOK’ AND DO YOU RECOMMEND IT?

The first look is when you the bride and the groom, see each other some time before walking down the aisle, usually an hour or two before the ceremony. WHY??? There are some very good reasons why couples do this. Firstly it ads an additional powerful emotional moment that only adds to the wedding day. Seeing each other all dressed up the day of the wedding one on one is a very intimate and personal moment to share and we have yet to see a couple that does not enjoy the experience and have a strong emotional reaction. It does not necessarily take away from you the bride walking down the aisle as this moment still has all the significants of seeing each other as well as all the family and guest reactions.Capturing the first look with photography and especially on the film really does add a lot in terms of creating a powerful intimate moment that would otherwise be missed. For some couples it makes TOTAL SENSE to take your couple photographs BEFORE the ceremony because of timing or because you don’t want your guests to wait for the professional couple / bridal party location photographs which should usually take around 2 hours minimum including travel time to achieve the best photographs and variety of creative images. The first look has become extremely popular in the United States. If you are very traditional and do not like the concept that is totally understandable and so the only thing we want is for our couples to understand what the first look is and what advantages it can bring.

DO YOU WORK WITH “ MUST HAVE LISTS “ OR WEDDING PHOTO LISTS FOR THE DAY?

We usually avoid this based on what we are trying to achieve with out photography which is to capture the emotion of the day. We tend to be totally aware of our environment, the mood, the lighting and backgrounds available at a particular time. We tend to if anything ask couples to sometimes do things they might be doing naturally at any given moment. We will however if it is important to our couple be happy to be sent an email with some photographic ideas which we would use for inspiration and ideas.

DO WE CHOOSE THE MUSIC FOR OUR WEDDING FILM?

We do ask you before the wedding for 5 to 10 artists you like. We use this list to influence our music decisions and often will search for some lesser known songs by that artist. Many brides tend to have a preconception of what wedding film music should be and this tended to create millions of wedding videos that all sound the same without much room for creating unique and original work. Furthermore many brides will suggest highly rotated popular songs that usually have copyright restrictions. Another thing to consider is that any song can only be played so many times before we no longer appreciate that song. So having fresh unknown or lesser known songs not only allows you to legally own copyright and share the video yet also makes it more original and unique.

CAN WE REQUEST CHANGES TO OUR WEDDING ALBUM AND WEDDING FILM?

Many wedding photographers pre design wedding albums for their couples. We like to give our couples as much control of the wedding album as we can because we feel that it’s our couples wedding and emotions that we are capturing. Therefore it is up to our couples to emotionally connect with the photos with the most meaning to them and to then pick those for the album. We therefore want our couples to personally choose the photographs that we then design the album with. Our cameras are all synchronised to the local time so that when we go to design the album, the images are in perfect chronological order as the day happened. We therefore allow our couples to take as much time as needed on the day of the album ordering to choose the photographs for the album, as the next time will be viewing the final physical album.

Any changes requested to be made to the wedding films are NOT inclusive of our collection unless we have made an error which we will promptly fix. An example of an error could be repeating a scene in the edit which is very rare. However any creative changes, such as changing music, adding footage or deleting footage are considered creative changes. Creative changes will be charged at $250 per hour which reflects also the time that will be needed in exporting and mastering the film a second time.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO TAKE PHOTOS?

There are actually two instances in the day where I believe are most conducive to beautiful photos. These are when we have the best light. This is usually when the bride and groom have just finished getting dressed at the home/hotel and during the last hour of light before sunset. This is one of the reasons why great photographers are always wanting to capture getting ready photos, because during that time of the day the light comes in through the windows in a way that can be softened and sculpted to create perfectly lit portraits. The last hour of light before sunset usually allows a balance between the couple and the sky, it allows soft warm sunset light to be used either as a key light or a backlight. This is why it is usually almost always best to have any locations photo shoot in the late afternoon. Morning or lunchtime location photos is usually not desirable for location photographs.

DOES HAVING A TAN MAKE FOR BETTER PHOTOS?

I remember our studio photographing some friends of ours wedding quite a few years ago and the groom had had a tan. He normally had a very pale freckly complexion and I thought he looked great with the tan! I have also had many mixed experiences with brides that had tan treatments prior to the wedding. Any highly professional wedding photographer understands the importance of skin tones and how cameras and lenses affect these. For example I usually make a decision on skin tone settings in my camera a few days before or on the day of the wedding. I also own around 10 professional lenses and know from using them over time how they also affect skin tone. Ultimately our lenses and camera settings will have a significant effect on skin tone as well as will the way the photos are edited. This is one of the reasons why we use a very accurate colour correction workflow as great consistent skin colour to us is one of the most important parts of capturing a wedding. This is definitely something you should look for when you are searching for a wedding photographer. When you look at full day wedding album, are the skin colours consistent from image to image, from page to page, and do you really feel the skin colour is beautiful or pleasing? If you look at perfume and fashion ads in magazines you will usually see very pleasing skin tones….

Getting back to tan treatments… Please try to be subtle when going for a pre wedding tan treatment. It can look very obvious and overdone if not done carefully. One of the most important things I focus on as a wedding photographer is to capture a perfectly white dress with detail still capturing detail in the grooms black suit ( if it is intact black ). It has become more easy over the years with more powerful editing software options. In the scenario where a bride has very orange skin which I have seen several times from tanning treatments, I can as the photographer add blue in camera to reduce the orange in the skin yet then what starts to happen is that I will turn the dress blue which is just as undesirable. There are workarounds to fix all this yet it is time consuming and colours will always look best when they are captured perfectly in the camera rather than fixing colours in the editing software

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

Light or medium rain is not really a big issue. Overcast weather is usually much more desirable than strong sun throughout the day so light to medium rain is in many ways actually desirable to strong sunshine. Even heavy rain and thunderstorms can be overcome so worrying about the weather is infinitely futile.

The very best thing is to have transparent see through umbrellas. The second choice would be white or black umbrellas. These can be used as props in the photos. We can photograph through the transparent plastic umbrellas which can look very creative and beautiful.

Secondly there are always locations available to photograph away from the rain. For example the two best places in Brisbane for photographing on a rainy day are around GOMA and also by the Emporium Hotel.

Thirdly, if it is easy for us to reshoot the couple photos a few days or weeks after the wedding, we would be happy to do a two hour shoot in better weather inclusive of our wedding photography collections if our couple feels this is important to them.
